A steady presence: Gary Maccarone endorses Bill Muto
Dear Neighbor,
You're going to hear a lot about where the candidates stand on the issues between now and September 9. I want to answer a different question: what kind of person is Bill Muto? I can answer that one; I've known Bill since freshman year at Warwick Vets.
Let me get the hard part out of the way: Bill was not the best athlete on that team. He won't argue with me about it, which is one of the things I like about him. His favorite saying is "you get five fouls; you better use them." What Bill was, was a very good teammate. He knew the play, knew where everybody else was supposed to be, and made everyone around him better.
This weekend, a loyal group of us from Warwick Vets will be celebrating our 40th reunion. We have been in each other's lives since high school, and Bill has been a steady presence in that circle. That kind of loyalty says a lot about who he is and how he shows up for the people around him.
As the years passed, life happened. Jobs, weddings, kids, a few funerals none of us saw coming. Bill has been there for all of it. He is loyal, compassionate, and his word is his bond. You can count on Bill, and in all these years I have never once had to wonder about that.
I've watched Bill serve on the City Council, and he brings the same energy and determination he brings to everything I've seen him take on. He works hard, he studies the issues, and he doesn't just point to problems; he shows up with solutions.
I am proud to call Bill my friend. Vote for Bill Muto on September 9.
